Perlis folk want PR1MA Home

Some 3,000 people thronged the PR1MA booth at the Jelajah Janji Ditepati carnival held at the Dataran Stadium Utama here yesterday.

Hundreds signed up to own their first house under the 1Malaysia Housing Programme (PR1MA).

One of the applicants, state government employee Nur Azrin Abdul Ghafor, 32, said he was looking forward to buying his dream home.

“It was hard for me to buy a house with my salary, which is less than RM3,000 a month.

” I am a father of two and most of my income is channelled into my children’s savings,” he said.

The carnival started at 8am yesterday and within two hours, 1,500 people had registered.

PR1MAquality management vice-president A. Kamal Hamid said he anticipated the number of registrations to double by the end of the day, with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak announcing plans to build 10,000 PR1MA homes in the next five years in Perlis.

“The response is good, taking into account the population of the state and the income of the people. To qualify, a person should be earning between RM2,500 and RM7,500 a month. Despite that, what we have today is remarkable.

“Within two hours of opening the booth, we had some 1,500 people registering and we expect the number to reach 3,000 by the end of the day.

“Now since the announcement, the process will kick off soon, starting with identifying a suitable piece of land.”
