PR1MA homes for TNB staff
TENAGA Nasional Berhad (TNB) staff will be able to purchase homes at an affordable price under the “Program Skim Perumahan Rakyat 1 Malaysia” (PR1MA) project.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak made this announcement yesterday to some 3,000 TNB staff during his working visit to its headquarters in Jalan Pantai. Earlier, he witnessed the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between TNB and PR1MA. Construction of the 80,000 house units will commence later this year.
Najib said the scheme, is open to all TNB staff with an income ranging between RM2,000 and RM7,500. “Not only is it affordable but it would also help ease TNB staff’s burden in purchasing homes.” He said the proposed project will be developed on a 3.2 hectare land in Kajang belonging to the utility company and will be located near a proposed Mass Rapid Transit station.
“The tie-up will also help realise the government’s National Transformation Policy (NTP) aim. “The house prices will be lower than those of the market price.” He said once both the projects were completed, TNB staff would reap benefits in terms of improved standards of living as well as reduced travelling cost.
About 50,000 units would be built under the MoU, while the remaining 30,000 units will be constructed via a tie-up with a private developer. TNB chairman, Tan Sri Leo Moggie said the effort is part of the company’s commitment towards providing better welfare and benefits for its staff.
“The initiative is actually a brainchild of the prime minister,” he said.
